Preventive Conservation
Preventive conservation involves the following operations:
- Dusting / Dry cleaning of documents with soft brush
- Testing: ink solubility and identification of adhesives (reinforcement tapes or papers)
- Spot gumming of significant stains
- Sampling for microbiological analysis (disinfection programme)
Many contaminated collections are entrusted to us. For these, we adopt a strict disinfection protocol by taking samples of the suspected active strains.
Then, according to the recommendations for strain analysis, we proceed with a complete dusting disinfection of the documents, or in the most extreme cases, with disinfection using ethylene oxide.
